Resources

Resources for using STEP

Here you will find the three most important documents from the STEP project: the report from the development work, a description of the STEP model with facilitator guidance, and a practical toolkit with templates for each module. The material has been developed to make the model easier to understand, adapt and use in local practice.

STEP currently exists as a framework that can be used in full or in part, and adapted to different groups and local contexts.

Three resources that make the model easier to use

We recommend reading both the report and the model description carefully before using STEP. Together, these documents provide insight into how the model was developed, how it is structured and how it can be used in practice.

PDF document Development report

Report from the development work

A consolidated report on how STEP was developed through collaboration between MIKS and AE2O, testing in Norway and Portugal, and ongoing adjustments in 2025. The report provides the background to the model and shows how the experiences from the development year shaped its content, structure and methodology.

PDF document Model description and guidance

The STEP model and facilitator guidance

A consolidated description of the STEP model in a practical and usable format. The document brings together the model description, facilitator guidance, module descriptions and resource suggestions, and is written for youth workers, advisers, support staff and others who want to use STEP in their work with young people.

PDF document Worksheets and templates

Template toolkit, module by module

A practical package of worksheets and tools based on the STEP model and facilitator guidance. The templates can be printed, copied and adapted locally, and are designed for active use in sessions with young people.

Using the material

How the material is intended to be used

STEP currently exists as a framework developed and tested through the project in 2025. The material can be used as a whole or in part, depending on the target group, the framework and local practice. For some, it will be most useful to use the whole model as a structured process. For others, it may be more relevant to use individual modules, ways of working or selected templates.

We recommend reading both the report and the model description carefully before using the model. The report provides insight into how STEP was developed, while the model description and facilitator guidance explain how the framework is built and how it can be used in practice.

Further development

The model will continue to evolve

MIKS Ressurssenter and AE2O will continue to work together to develop STEP in the time ahead. One important next step is to test and document a more standardised 12-week process.

At the same time, the model in its current form is fully usable as a framework for working with young people in different local contexts. The material shared here has been developed so that it can be used, adapted and developed further in practice.
